Craniopathy

Craniopathy care focuses on balancing the bones of the head, creating a more optimal environment for the brain and nervous system to function. Craniopathy care is mainly intra oral. I works on the entire body, so I will also do hands on chiropractic manipulation and other modalities to get the other nerves of the body working more optimally.  With a brain injury you want to make sure you can test each individual nerve, get pressure off of it, and stimulate it to start functioning again.  The body is a connected system so you have to treat it entirely.  I also uses quantum neurology and light therapy to help rehabilitate specific nerves in the head and body.  And finally she does genetic based nutrition to help give the brain and nervous the support it needs to heal effectively.

All the bones of the head move every time you breathe.  When they get out of proper movement, abnormal signals start to occur.  Whether that is pain, limitations in range of motion, organ function, sleep, hormones, digestion ect.  This treatment helps to balance the nervous system and get pressure off of nerves or stimulate nerves to get them functioning normally.  Nerves can heal they just need the right stimulous, and the pressure needs to be taken off the brain. The treatment relieves all functions mentioned above.

Questions for Dr. Hamel:

  • Who would be the ideal candidate for the treatment? Everyone is an ideal candidate as we all have some form of cranial distortion just from being born.  But if there is any head injury, whiplash or concussion these should be evaluated immediately.  Someone with jaw pain, brain fog, neck and back pain, sleep disturbance, mood imbalances also are great candidates.

  • What are the side effects? None!  Sometimes a little soreness, but overall most individuals get a lot of relief, feel extremely calm and heal quickly.

  • Anything you would want TBI patients to know:  Don't just rest and recover.  You NEED to get the nerves functioning back as soon as possible.  Not many people do craniopathy care, but getting pressure off the brain and normalizing CSF fluid in the brain is HUGE for healing.  You have to get the pressure off the brain, then you can start doing rehabilitation.  Also, don't neglect the vision.  Huge is healing the cranial nerves.

  • What is the difference between craniopathy vs craniosacral therapy and osteopathic therapy: Craniosacral is a very basic technique.  You don't have to be a doctor to take a course, and can learn on a weekend.  Mainly massage therapists do this and it's all work outside the body.  Osteopathy can be work outside and inside the mouth for work.  Cranaiopathy combines osteopathy, which I use mainly intraoral adjustments as well as combining with chiropractic and full body evaluation.  It's more advanced and looks at the body as a whole from head to toe.

Going to a cranial specialist is important because they open up the pathways to allow the brain to drain. This is a medical specialty and you should not under any circumstances entrust your delicate fractured neck to just any ordinary Chiropractor. After your spinal vetebrae get fractured and have healed, there is often scar tissue. This area gets pinched and blood flow gets diminished. This is a physical way that you can maximize the flow and reduce pain. This therapy maximized the benefits of HBOT treatments. Therapist seeks to release the natural spinal rhythm and flossing that should be in the spine and in the body tissues. There is a subtle rhythmic very slow breathing motion in the spine. It is a physical thing, it's not "energy." When there is an injury, whether an old one  or a new one, that natural rhythmic pulse can be decreased or absent in that area of the body due to micro scarring in the tissues. Cranio-sacral therapy helps to mobilize that scarring, or resuscitate it, back to the normal motion patterns that should be there. This helps to optimize circulation and nerve function. The cranio-sacral motion has been compared to the "breath" of the lungs. Or the beat of the heart--a circulation method....But it is the "breath" of the spine--a slow 12 second breath that moves in a sine-wave, more or less, physically speaking. When the breath or rhythm is resuscitated to the area, then it continues to heal from that point onward, because the area is now mobilized, continuing to improve function, circulation, and nerve impulses. Cranio-Sacral technique is a field that originated in Osteopathy about 100 years ago, and is now practiced by certain Osteopaths, Chiropractors, and Massage Therapists.  Dr. Sylvia brought me out of cervical vertebrae neck pain on a regular basis and brought my body into alignment. This therapy maximized the benefits of my HBOT treatments.

Cranial work was really amazing at helping my neck relax and release tension. My neck was super tight from the whiplash, so this helped blood flow go up to my brain.

I tried Cranio-Sacral Therapy because a friend had recommended it, and literally took me to my first appointment.  This therapy was so powerful.  On the first visit, I felt so much release of the tightness in my head, it seriously felt so much lighter.  There was a strong emotional release that also occured during these treatments.  Cathy's energy is incredibly soothing, I have never been so relaxed in my life.  I honestly don't understand much about how this therapy works, but it is really wonderful.  I could feel the energy moving through my body and felt that this was very calming to my nervous system.  My headaches really improved as well as my pain levels, as I had to have surgery for a herniated disc in my neck as a result of the accident.  I would absolutely recommend this therapy to anyone trying to heal from any injury or illness, as it is incredibly restorative.

Osteopaths are freaking awesome. Apparently, they study the human anatomy in so much detail, that when they put 2 and 2 together, it becomes 6. And they’re always right. Often, they also master the art of Western Acupuncture. Mapping out your injury and the aftermath of it becomes a lot easier with an osteopath in your team. Get them working with a physiotherapist and a neurologist and you’ve got a dream team. In the Helsinki area, I recommend Tuukka Häkkinen (Helsingin Urheiluhieronta) and Pasi Paksunen (Back Bone Clinic).

This treatment helped me in my recovery but I was never consistent with it.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy was actually recommended to me by my dad who also had a TBI. I went to go see a physical therapist that practiced cranio-sacral therapy. Her name is Kim Lawler-Coyle. And her clinic is called Focus on Health Physical Therapy which is in Newport Beach, CA. Kim also does a different kind of therapy called Redcord. It helped me a lot too.

Will's sessions are like a multidisciplinary approach with his background in Osteopathy, Craniosacral Therapy and Naturopathy. Will was able to notice things going on under the surface that I didn't even realise was happening and address them in a gentle manner. I highly recommend Will to explore your recovery.
